Unlike security officers, they wear plain clothes, as they work undercover. The work can involve: -- patrolling stores looking out for shoplifters -- discreetly following shoppers who behave suspiciously -- keeping notes of observations and writing reports on incidents -- arresting suspects -- calling the police and attending while a suspect is being questioned -- taking evidence from witnesses -- giving evidence in court. -- Store detectives generally work around 40 hours a week, on a shift pattern covering shopping hours, which is likely to include evenings and weekends although we can offer full time staff to not only cover working hours but our staff can assist in locking up and do night patrols if necessary. -- Detectives are generally based inside shops.
